Tulane University, located in New Orleans, has a fantastic organization that I thought was perfect for this week's Campus Highlight.
CACTUS (Community Action Council of Tulane University Students) claims to be "the oldest and largest student-led community service organization in the country." According to their site, CACTUS was "[f]ounded in the 1960s in the belief that a college education should extend beyond the classroom ... [and] takes on major challenges in New Orleans by providing community assistance to a wide variety of individuals and organizations." Awesome!
An information page on CACTUS lists 20 organizations/initiatives that students volunteer with as well as 9 "Association of Service and Education Organizations." Way to go, students of Tulane, for some noteworthy efforts that are undoubtedly improving the community of New Orleans.
