One of the biggest worries of many college students is how on earth they are ever going to pay back large amounts of student loans. These worries are even larger for students who want to go into nonprofit or public service work.
An interesting article in Time Magazine by Tufts University President Lawrence S. Bacow spoke about Tuft's loan-repayment-assistance program. As he stated in the article, Tufts started the program "because alumni who are burdened by debt can't afford to take jobs in social service." It seems like a great program that, while the first of its kind to go university-wide, just may be something your school is interested in. It's at least worth checking out, right? See if your financial aid office has heard of Tufts program or if they have any similar programs for social service-minded graduates whose noble efforts may be hampered by financial constraints. What do you have to lose--besides your student loans?
