Studying abroad can offer a lot of benefits, but you still may not be sure if it's totally right for you. If you're interested in studying off-campus but don't want to travel internationally, check out these five programs as exciting alternatives:
1. Los Alamos National Laboratory. Located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, the Laboratory's programs are targeted at undergraduate science students.
2. The Newberry Library. Programs in this fantastic Chicago library include summer internships and semester-long seminars. Eligibility for some programs may be limited, but it's at least worth a look.
3. New York Arts Program. This program aims to "provide students seriously interested in the performing, visual and media arts with an opportunity to experience the world of the established professional artist or organization in New York City."
4. Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Also geared toward science majors, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory offers programs for undergraduates that range from 10 weeks (summer) to 12 months.
5. Philadelphia Center. Offering both seminars and internships, the Philadelphia Center is a great program for students interested in obtaining significant work experience during their undergraduate years.
