CafeScribe's website.

While you can't beat the price, the limited selection doesn't make it possible for most students to take advantage of these services. Read on to see how each site fared. If you have a second to explore, they could be worth checking out.

CafeScribe

CafeScribe.com is a website that lets you search for and download textbooks in digital form. Similar to iTunes, you have to download a reader ("MyScribe") before you can look for books. Because everything is online, prices can be up to 50 percent cheaper than traditional books.

Cool Features: The ability to "take notes" and share them with your friends; free, seven-day-a-week phone support.

Drawbacks: You have to download the reader before you can search; you can only print out approximately 30% of the download; limited selection; beta version

TextbookRevolution

TextbookRevolution.com is another electronic text site that that provides "free educational materials"--books! The majority of content, however is mirrored from other locations.

Cool Features: Some (although not all) of the files are actually downloadable PDFsl the price; the site is student-run and volunteer-operated.

Drawbacks: Limited selection (there are currently around 300 books); occasional technical difficulties
