7 Ways to Get Politically Involved While in College
- Register to vote. Not sure where or how? Check with your local city hall, your campus student activities office, or even your campus student government.
- Register 10 people to vote. They could be your friends, people in your residence hall, or community members. But they're 10 people who may not have voted without your efforts.
- Go to a debate in person. It may be a presidential debate that requires a weekend road trip or a mayoral debate in your hometown. Regardless, it will undoubtedly be an interesting experience.
- Organize a debate-watching party in your residence hall or apartment building. Popcorn, a television, neighbors, and a debate. What could be more college?
- Volunteer with a campaign. Campaigns need help with everything from registering voters to making calls to filing. There's undoubtedly something you're good at that they need help with.
- Organize a trip to your local polling place on election day. Going as a group can make most folks more likely to follow through. Why not make it easier for everyone?
- Wear a button or t-shirt to promote conversations with people on campus. You never know who will approach you, but you do know a great conversation will follow. Which is really what college is all about, right?
