Thrifty Thursday: Buy in Bulk with Friends

By January 24, 2013

You may be so squished for space in your daily life -- in your classrooms, your room, your favorite coffee shop -- that the idea of something in bulk sounds utterly ridiculous ... and expensive.

Sometimes, however, you can get the cost benefits of buying in bulk without having to deal with the, um, bulk itself. If you're trying to really watch your pennies, consider buying things like laundry soap, peanut butter, toilet paper, paper towels, etc., from large warehouse stores. Do you need 50 pounds of laundry soap? Probably not. But if you and 4 other friends split a honkin' tub of detergent, you can get 10 pounds for much less money than you would if you bought 10 pounds on your own. If you're smart about it, buying -- and splitting -- things in bulk with several other college friends can end up saving you some serious cash during your time in school!
