As Thanksgiving approaches, many of us will be heading home to family, friends, and a generous holiday meal. But for some people -- including college students -- having enough food on a consistent basis is a struggle instead of a luxury.
At the University of Mississippi, faculty and students collaborated to create the Ole Miss Food Bank. Its mission is to "foster a healthy college community by providing nourishing food to students in an effort to alleviate hunger on the UM Campus." Students simply need to show up with a campus ID to receive food at no cost. There are also drop boxes located around campus for community members to make donations.
Given how easy it can be to forget that hunger affects even those sitting next to you in class, the Ole Miss Food Bank deserves a shout-out for this week's Campus Highlight. Keep up the great work!
(Each Monday during the academic year, I feature a "Campus Highlight": a unique, interesting, and noteworthy student organization, program, or initiative that demonstrates the amazing things college students do each and every day across the country.)
